heal thyself..

December 31, 2008

I am letting myself heal from all that running. Two days max of rest then it’s crying time again hehe. It takes that much time for me to replenish the energy I consumed during the last run. The wife cooked some beans last night – this could make an interesting run-it will be just like running on “clouds”.

Goo vs Lactose intolerance

December 31, 2008

I finally tried goo during my (treadmill) run last Sunday (it was thirty four degrees outside that’s why the treadmill). I was amazed on the kind of boost effect I got after taking one of those goos (or gu?). I logged 16 miles on the treadmill and decided to try out the goo for each hour spent. I was very confident that if my system ever reacts adversely to the goo ( I am lactose intolerant), I can always find a nice comfortable and clean bathroom in my house. I used up two of those in the process,  the first on the second hour and the other on the third hour, and several days later – still no reaction. My lactose intolerance must be waning, but this remains to be seen. I don’t want to get comfortable with the idea that can always backfire. Can you imagine if I get sick in the stomach using thoses goo(s or gu?) while on a marathon run? It’ll be a very memorable run – running from one porta potty to the next all the way to the finish line!

One thing to note – the goos (or gu?) are very light to carry compared to the MCD egg mcmuffin I took with me during the marathon. (How is goo spelled anyway??)

Been draggin’…

December 27, 2008

I woke up at 3 am this morning and could not get back to sleep. After which I made coffee and sat in front of the computer. I didn’t really do anything productive except just messed around with my old photos by converting them to black and whites. It’s the exact same thing (sat in front of the computer) I did last night as well, but last night’s photos were hdrs. I must have vented my frustrations of not being able to run yesterday to doing unproductive stuff like digital photo processing.
I might just as well show you guys some of the work I did that way I can justify the time I wasted in front of the computer. More can be found at this website.

Snagged again

December 27, 2008

Had to replace the car battery which took more than an hour for the whole process – taking it out from the car, taking it to the car parts store, bringing it home, and installing it. Along with it, I included going to Barnes and Nobles for coffee and included perusing some of their magazines. By the time I was done with everything, it was already dark. No use running then since the running trail closes when it gets dark. What a bummer!
I had to tell my boss of my plan to run this weekend so she’ll not come up with anything that will throw me off my plans again. What a life, huh?

I itched

December 26, 2008

Christmas day, it was sunny and was 50 degrees outside – a really nice day to go running. But the idea hit a snag when my wife said that I should be spending my time on Christmas day with my family. I agreed so I just stayed home and chilled while I itched to go running. A somewhat wasted time at home really for we literally did nothing but took naps much like what most seniors do.
I have already checked the weather for tomorrow and it will be 73 when I go running at 3 pm. A perfect shorts and t-shirt weather. Until that plan hits a snag again, I will be at the running trail.

Stupid is what stupid does.

December 23, 2008

I went on a 10 mile run last night when it was 31 degrees outside and windy. I’ll tell you I did not take a chance resting or else I would have frozen hehe. I started feeling the effects of the cold thirty minutes after I got home. For those of you who want a challenge, don’t do what I did even if you are bundled up well. You are just going to regret it.
I woke up this morning as if I were going to get sick. I kind of hope I have gotten sick so I didn’t have to go to work today. What a reason, huh? I didn’t get sick at all the whole day and I was forced to finish all my work in my desk.

My First Marathon Experience

December 21, 2008

It is funny when one joins a marathon race for the first time. So much is going in one’s head that even the thought of racing is at the bottom of one’s priorities; the main priority is more like if the race can be finished. I ran my first marathon a week ago and all I thought of when I was running the first few miles was when I’ll get hit with leg cramps. Sure enough, my cramps did not fail me.  In fact, they came knocking early, on both legs, too, at the 14th mile. It was run and walk from that time on – for the next 12 miles!

I tried everything to distract me from the (leg cramps) pain like looking at those sexy runners in front of me, no use (pictures above + Dolly Parton wanna bees @ mile 19.5, hehe).  I should have better luck next time on that. I tried drinking gatorade and water at every aid station I passed, but those didn’t help much to alleviate the pain either. The only thing that really helped were the images of the foods that I was going to eat once the race was over. I was determined to finish the race (or more like a punishment) even if I had to crawl crossing the finish line.

Well luckily, I mustered enough strength left from that egg mcmuffin I ate on the 14th mile. I finally crossed the finish line of the 2008 Dallas White Rock Marathon at five and a half hours  after  jogging and walking with leg cramps for almost three hours. And guess what, a few of those sexy runners who finished before me were still in the finish area for me to enjoy (watching). What a good and painful run that was! I think I want to do that again.

An empty mind.

December 17, 2008

What do you say with an empty mind? Nothing!

Merry Christmas to one and all.
